The Society serves its members by providing opportunities for education and sharing of experiences, and by promoting the development of a body of professional knowledge and literature to enhance the quality and increase the availability of appropriate health care for people affected by the addictions.

Membership in FSAM is coupled with membership in ASAM. Physicians join the state chapter and the national organization simultaneously and receive the benefits of both concurrently. Membership is open to physicians and medical students interested and involved in the prevention and treatment of addictions.
